Car rental service Hertz on Demand has added an electric vehicle, the Chevrolet Volt, to its University of Connecticut fleet, along with four electric vehicle charging stations.
Hertz On Demand is a service where UConn members can pay-as-they-go with no annual fee and have 24/7 access to a fleet of vehicles. It is similar to other services such as Zipcar offered in urban areas.
UConn launched Hertz on Demand in Storrs with four vehicles in 2011. With the addition of the Volt, the fleet now has six vehicles serving 800 members.
The addition of the four charging stations at the Storrs Center garage are meant to service the Volt and any members of the general public who need to charge their electric cars.
