Hair City, a beauty supply store at 1291 Albany Ave., Hartford, has donated 75 new wigs for low-income women through the Hispanic Health Council’s DIVAS Latina Cancer Support Program. The wigs will help women who lose their hair during chemotherapy. While many insurance plans cover wigs for cancer patients, some do not. The DIVAS cancer support program provides support, case management, education and medical interpretation to Spanish-speaking women undergoing cancer treatment. Many of the women in the program cannot afford wigs or other cancer-care essentials such as nutritional supplements and high quality shampoos and skin creams.
