Help-wanted ads drop by one-fifth

Connecticut’s online help-wanted ad index showed a big year-over-year decrease, according to figures released by the state Department of Labor.

The Conference Board’s Help Wanted OnLine data reported that there were 61,500 advertisements for Connecticut-based jobs in April 2016. That’s a 0.6 percent decrease from March but a 19.6 percent decrease over the year.

The report said there were 3.23 advertised vacancies for every 100 people in Connecticut’s labor force, while nationally it was 3.25 percent. Last year in April, there were 4.03 vacancies per 100 people vs. a national number of 3.41 percent.

Among the New England states, Massachusetts had the highest labor demand rate (4.28), while Rhode Island had the lowest rate (2.84).
