Labor demand, as measured by online help-wanted ads, took a sharp drop year-over-year in February, according to figures released by the state Department of Labor.
There were 66,500 advertisements for Connecticut-based jobs in February 2016, a 6.5 percent decrease over the month and an 11.3 percent decrease over the year, according to DOL’s April 2016 Connecticut Economic Digest.
That amounted to 3.5 advertised vacancies for every 100 persons in Connecticut’s labor force, while nationally it was 3.4 percent. Among the New England states, Massachusetts had the highest labor demand rate (4.7), while Vermont had the lowest (3.1).
The Conference Board Help Wanted Online Data Series (HWOL) measures the number of new, first-time online jobs and jobs reposted from the previous month for over 16,000 Internet job boards, corporate boards and smaller job sites that serve niche markets and smaller geographic areas.
