Hearst expands grip on state news

Publishing giant Hearst Corp. is increasing its journalistic hold on Connecticut, announcing today that it will acquire The Advocate of Stamford and Greenwich Time. The acquisition adds to Hearst’s existing joint venture with Denver-based MediaNews Group Inc., a venture that already includes ownership and operation of the Connecticut Post and The News-Times in Danbury. MediaNews, together with its affiliated companies, publishes about 60 daily newspapers nationwide.
