Voting opened this week for HealthyCT’s approximately 35,000 members to elect three fellow members to the board of directors.
Unlike other Connecticut health insurance companies, a majority of the HealthyCT board members are policyholders insured by the non-profit co-op. This year, 47 people nominated themselves as candidates for the three open seats, a four-fold increase over the number who indicated their interest in the inaugural board election in 2014.
Those eligible to serve are HealthyCT members in good standing as of Sept. 30 who were 18 years old or older, passed a background check, and have not served on a board of another insurance carrier since 2010. In total, HealthyCT members must hold at least six of the 11 voting seats on the board, which also includes non-voting representatives of the two organizations that sponsored the creation of HealthyCT, the Connecticut State Medical Society and the Connecticut State Medical Society Independent Practice Association.
Voting closes at the HealthyCT annual meeting in January.
