Our Mission: Healing Meals Community Project has a dual mission to provide healthy, organic meals to people in a health crisis and to empower youth volunteers with self-awareness, job readiness and leadership skills training, which fosters a sense of compassion for our community.
Imagine a kitchen filled with 25 people, many were strangers when they first walked in. The youngest is 14, the oldest, 77. They come from all walks of life, each with their own stories to tell. But in this kitchen, they become singularly focused on creating healthy meals to help heal families in a health crisis. What is amazing is through this simple, selfless act, a community is created where all can feel empowered, feel as though they have purpose, feel loved. By bringing together youth and adult volunteers, cross-generational creativity and respect becomes ingrained in our culture. Our staff thrives as we see a positive impact in our clients, our youth and our adult volunteers, while we are focused on nourishing those in need.

Fundraising Events/Opportunities
Healing Meals’ largest fundraising event each year is the Eversource Hartford Marathon, where runners, walkers and volunteers come together to raise money so that our clients will continue to receive nutrient-rich meals made by our amazing youth chefs. In addition, we host Community Dinners throughout the year that bring individuals together in a meaningful way. Participants have the opportunity to taste our delicious food, learn how we nourish our clients with organic food and love while they connect with their community.

Volunteer Opportunities
We are the only non-profit in Connecticut with the ability to experientially teach volunteers about healthy foods from ‘start to finish.’ Volunteers have the opportunity to harvest produce from the organic healing garden, prep food, cook, package and deliver healing meals; the experience is transformational for everyone involved. Youth over 14, adult community members and corporate teams are all encouraged to become involved!
