Connecticut Treasurer Denise Nappier last week appointed award-winning journalist Diane Weaver Dunne as the state Treasury’s director of communications. She is leaving her post as deputy editor of the Hartford Business Journal, where she has worked since 2001. Her appointment at the state Treasury became effective June 7.
“Diane has been a valuable member of the Hartford Business Journal editorial team,” said Vincent M. Valvo, the paper’s editor. “We’re very sorry to see her go. But we understand the wonderful opportunity before her. We can only wish her well. But she will always be fondly remembered here.”
Dunne has written for the Hartford Courant, Imprint Newspapers and the Connecticut Law Tribune and earlier worked as news editor for Education World, a Web magazine.
A graduate of Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communication and the University of Hartford’s graduate program in communication, she also served as an adjunct professor at the University of Hartford for several years teaching communication.
Dunne won several awards for journalistic excellence this year from the Society of Professional Journalists. In 2006, she was named journalist of the year by the Connecticut office of the U.S. Small Business Administration.
