Hawaiian Airlines picks Pratt to power Airbus fleet

Hawaiian Airlines selected Pratt & Whitney to provide the next generation engines for the air carrier’s new fleet of 25 Airbus narrowbody aircraft, the East Hartford jet engine manufacturer announced Thursday.

Pratt will supply up to 50 of its efficient PurePower engines for the 16 firm and nine option A312neo aircraft that Hawaiian is purchasing from Airbus. Each of the planes sit up to 236 passengers.

Financial terms were not disclosed. Pratt is a subsidiary of Hartford conglomerate United Technologies Corp.

To supply the next generation of engines for the Airbus A320 family, Pratt competes with CFM International, a joint venture between the engine division of Fairfield conglomerate General Electric and French aerospace manufacturer Snecma.
