The Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation has awarded eight Connecticut nonprofits a total of $4,000 through its Community Spirit 9/11 Mini-Grant fund.
The organizations that shared those funds are: Alzheimer's Association; Camp Courant; East of the River Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind; Friends of Feral Felines; Leadership Greater Hartford; Meriden Humane Society; The Bridge Family Center; and Wallingford Family YMCA.
The Hartford Foundation is awarding basic human needs grants totaling $550,000 to 68 nonprofit agencies that provide food and other basic human needs to residents throughout Greater Hartford.
The grants support both regional and local agencies in Avon, Bloomfield, East Hartford, Enfield, Hartford, Manchester, Newington, Rocky Hill, Simsbury, Vernon, West Hartford, Wethersfield and Windsor.
The Hill-Stead Museum has received a $32,500 grant from the SBM Charitable Foundation to serve area students.
The funds will support Hill-Stead's “A Close Brush with Genius: Encountering Impressionism at Hill-Stead Museum” program offered to East Hartford, Vernon and Manchester students. The program provides fine arts, language arts, and world languages themed educational programs to underserved students.
In celebration of the upcoming holidays, Manchester-based Bob's Discount Furniture announced a donation of $103,000 to food pantries and hunger-relief programs within its markets throughout the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, Midwest and West Coast. An organization near each of the 89 Bob's Discount Furniture stores, five distribution centers and nine future store locations will receive a $1,000 donation from the furniture retailer.
In an effort to address a rising number of reverse mortgage foreclosures in Connecticut, the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving has awarded the Connecticut Fair Housing Center a three-year, $235,000 grant to support the Reverse Mortgage Foreclosure Prevention Project. The project is designed to legally assist victims and to conduct additional legal research on the extent and nature of the reverse mortgage foreclosures. Foundation funds will be used to pay for staff, consultants, insurance, case and legal research, and indirect costs.
