Hartford’s recently revised zoning code has received five awards acknowledging its promotion of economic development and environmental sustainability, Mayor Luke Bronin said.
In Jan. 2016, the Planning & Zoning Commission comprehensively revised the zone regulations, marking the first revision in 50 years.
Regionally, the Capitol Region Council of Governments (CRCOG) awarded the city its 2016 Sustainability Award. Lyle Wray, executive director of CRCOG, praised the new code as “a model” for prioritizing sustainability.
Hartford also was one of five winners of the Boston-based New England Chapter of the Congress of New Urbanism’s 2016 Urbanism Award.
Statewide awards included: the Connecticut Chapter of the American Planning Association Transformative Planning Award, for innovative content; the Connecticut Economic Resource Center Economic Development Project of the Year Award for the North-Central region, for reducing construction costs and promoting smart growth; and the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities Inaugural Sustainability Award, for incentives to renewable energy and green roofs.
