Hartford’s Wearsafe plows through fundraising goal

Hartford safety tech startup Wearsafe Labs has raised more than $100,000 in just over a month on the crowdfunding website Kickstarter.

The company raised a total of $106,085 from 1,107 people during its campaign, which ended Thursday. That beat its $75,000 fundraising goal by more than 41 percent.

More than half of Kickstarter campaigns fail to reach their pre-stated goal, according to CrowdLifted.

Wearsafe came out of the gate strong, raising 40 percent of its goal in the first few days.

The company offers a wearable button that can discretely notify a network of family or friends that someone feels they are in danger. It costs $40 plus $4.99 per month for service.

Wearable said it hopes to incorporate the functionality into fitness trackers and smart watches.
