Hartford’s Ritter family ‘corners’ downtown

Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra and State Rep. Matt Ritter will be on hand at 3 p.m. Thursday to honor the civic legacy of Ritter’s paternal grandparents by naming the corner of Albany Avenue and High Street, adjacent to the city’s new public-safety complex, in their honor.

The naming ceremony will honor George and Patricia Ritter for a lifetime of fighting for social justice and equal opportunity, the city said. George Ritter, formerly Hartford’s deputy mayor, died last July.

The Ritters founded the Connecticut Housing Investment Fund which became a model for minority homeownership and remains a model for affordable housing.

They are the parents of former state lawmaker Thomas D. Ritter, who is Matt’s father.
