A 20,000-square-foot food market featuring more than 20 locally-operated restaurant vendors is expected to open in Hartford’s Parkville neighborhood in spring 2019, the governor announced.
Gov. Dannel P. Malloy said state and local officials will hold a groundbreaking Thursday afternoon for Parkville Market, Hartford’s rendition of a sprawling food and community hall housed in the former Bishop Ladder Co. at 1400 Park St.
Hartford Business Journal first reported on the market last year.
Carlos Mouta, one of Parkille’s biggest landlords, is developing the project, which will transform the vacant two-story industrial building to include 22 restaurants vendors, a shopping mall and a cultural exploration center.
Mouta has pitched converting the building into 60 to 80 kiosks, ranging from 200 to 600 square feet, to a wide variety of vendors, including budding chefs, he has said. The seven-days-a-week market will become one of the Capital City’s first transit-oriented developments since the CTfastrak busway debuted in 2015, linking Hartford and New Britain.
Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin and other business leaders are also expected to join the groundbreaking ceremony beginning at 2 p.m.
