Hartford’s Park St. gets $4.7M for makeover

The façade makeover of Hartford’s Latino commercial corridor on Park Street will continue with $4.7 million in funding from the State Bond Commission, authorities say.

Angel Sierra, president of the Spanish American Merchants Association (SAMA) and the Park Street Special Services District, said the building renovations eventually will bring in more revenue for its merchants and create jobs.

The new funds will support renovation of 20-25 building façades, adding an architectural dimension to the buildings in the style of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, Sierra said.

The money also will pay for extra security cameras on Park Street, he said.
