Replacement of a century-old boiler will temporarily close Hartford’s Company No. 15 fire station — the Mayor Michael Peters Firehouse, the city fire department said Thursday.
The station at 8 Fairfield Ave., in the city’s South End, closes effective Tuesday, said the department’s executive officer, Capt. Ronald J. Chance. Work will be completed in September.
The old boiler, dating to the days of coal heat, has been coverted in the last 100 years from coal to heating oil to natural gas, Chance said.
Company 15’s two fire apparatus will be temporarily relocated to firehouses in surrounding districts. Emergency services will not be impacted by the move, the fire captain said. Â
