Hartford’s I-84 acreage in Farmington marketed for sale or lease

A Farmington land parcel near I-84 that Hartford’s municipal pension fund owns is for sale or lease for an undisclosed sum, brokers say.

National commercial broker-advisor CBRE announced Thursday that it has been hired by the city Treasurer’s Office to market the approximately 86-acre unimproved parcel at 8261 Fienemann Road. It is generally located on the eastbound side of I-84, between Exits 36 and 37, near Hartford’s Batterson Park in Farmington.

City Treasurer Adam M. Cloud said a buyer or ground-lease tenant is being sought for the property the pension fund acquired from the city in 2016 in lieu of the city’s regular cash contribution on workers’ behalf to the fund. Cloud said no sale price has been set, but proceeds would benefit the pension fund.

Cloud and CBRE pointed to a number of sizable employers housed around the parcel, including Stanley Black & Decker, United Technologies Corp. — and its Otis and Carrier units — UConn Health Center and Jackson Labs.
