Hartford small business developer HEDCO Inc. has won a $150,000 federal grant from the U.S. Small Business Administration to assist entrepreneurs.
The award is part of $5 million in grants provided through the SBA’s Program for Investment in Micro-Entrepreneurs (PRIME). The organizations receiving grants help low-income entrepreneurs gain access to capital to establish and expand their small businesses.
HEDCO offers a range of small business and nonprofit services including loans and technical assistance.
Thirty-three organizations from 23 other states and the District of Columbia also received awards, the SBA said.
Administrator Linda McMahon said the SBA placed special emphasis in this year’s competition on projects that will offer training and technical assistance to strengthen cooperative forms of business, particularly those that serve economically disadvantaged entrepreneurs.
