Hartford’s Costa del Sol restaurant closed temporarily

Costa del Sol, a Spanish restaurant in Hartford’s South End, announced Sunday it has temporarily closed.

The family-owned restaurant, co-owned by Pepe Feijoo, Maria Dieguez and Javier Feijoo, in a statement on its website said it’s been dealing with retirements and family illness this year. The owners did not offer a reopening date.

“We hope that the community understands and respects our need to focus on our family during this time,” said Pepe Feijoo and Maria Dieguez.

Established in 1986, the restaurant at 901 Wethersfield Ave. says it’s the oldest Spanish restaurant in Connecticut.

The eatery has become known for its seafood, traditional Galician dishes and a variety of Spanish tapas.

“This is not the end but perhaps a new beginning, we look forward to the day that we can announce our return to the Greater Hartford community,” said Javier Feijoo. We are planning to take the time to refocus, reenergize and re-emerge stronger than ever.”
