Former Phoenix Cos. and Gen Re executive Michael Haylon has joined Hartford asset manager Conning Inc. as managing director, overseeing investment products.
Haylon will be in charge of global product development and management of Conning’s investment products, including traditional fixed income, specialty products, select equity offerings, and alternative investments. Conning manages more than $85 billion in assets for insurers and other institutional clients.
He also will work with all of Conning’s divisions including insurance research and risk and capital management to develop new products and services. Based in Hartford, Haylon reports to Chief Investment Officer Richard L. Sega.
Haylon joins Conning from General Re New England Asset Management, which has offices in Farmington, where he was head of investment product management.
He also is former executive vice president and investment chief at The Phoenix. He holds a B.A. from Bowdoin College and MBA from the University of Connecticut.
Haylon is a founding partner, member of the board and executive committee member of the Covenant Preparatory School in Hartford.
He also sits on the boards of Annaly Capital Management and Village for Families and Children, and is a member of the investment committee for Hartford Hospital and the Watkinson School in Hartford.
