Hartford’s City Steam Brewery sets reopening date

Downtown Hartford’s City Steam Brewery is slated to reopen from its coronavirus-induced hiatus in September.

City Steam managing partner Jay DuMond says the restaurant/brewery and pool hall at 942 Main St. will reopen Sept. 14, seven nights a week for both indoor and outdoor dining. Its menu will initially feature pizza and other items for its gas-fired French rotisserie, DuMond said.

New social distancing rules, he said, will be enforced in City Steam’s rear pool room. The Brew HaHa Comedy Club in the basement of the multi-floor venue will resume shows once the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.

Since temporarily closing the business for indoor dining in March, DuMond said City Steam has been focused on brewing and marketing its flagship Naughty Nurse IPA, among other types of craft beer.

DuMond said the coronavirus crisis will likely be the largest economic blow to Hartford he’s ever experienced, but he’s still confident downtown’s central business district can rebound.

“This seems to be the event that will cause the most damage to the business health of downtown Hartford, but all we can do is to stick together and hopefully office workers and downtown dwellers will show their support for all downtown businesses during this trying time,” he said.

City Steam is located in the historic Cheney Building, which opened in 1877 and formerly housed Connecticut’s largest department store, Brown Thomson & Co.
