Our Mission: Hartford’s Camp Courant is a youth development organization and the oldest and largest FREE summer day camp in the nation. Camp Courant’s mission is to provide Hartford children equal opportunity to participate in recreational and educational experiences that balance fun with enrichment, while expanding horizons, instilling confidence, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and inspiring big dreams for the future.
At Camp Courant, we believe summer camp can be a transformative experience that alters the trajectory of a child’s life. We believe every child, regardless of economic or social circumstances, deserves the opportunity to have fun, learn, make friends, and be mentored in a safe, happy environment that creates a sense of wellbeing and a sense of belonging. We believe active learning, fun activities, and being outdoors in nature promotes positive youth development and builds life skills. We believe urban youth who have the opportunity to get out of their city environment and into a serene outdoor setting will experience a sense of wonder and also a sense of possibility that every child deserves. We believe that making active learning and fun activities during summer accessible to those who cannot afford camp is one way to level the playing field for Hartford children.
Fundraising Events/Opportunities
Hartford’s Camp Courant celebrated its 125th camp season in 2019 and you are invited to help us keep on celebrating! A number of fundraising events will take place over the course of the year, culminating with our annual year-end Buddy Bash celebration at our campsite on Friday, September 11, 2020.
The Buddy Bash celebration will highlight the amazing work of Camp Courant over the last 125 years+, and will feature lavish food from over 20 area restaurants, delicious brews, great entertainment, and exciting silent auction items, all in support of Hartford’s young people.
The Buddy Bash also honors one organization and one individual who are dedicated to supporting an exciting, educational and robust youth-development experience for thousands of Hartford’s kids, summer after summer. The 2019 award winners were the Richard P. Garmany Fund and Jim Donahue of Winam Wines.

Giving Opportunities
Help keep Camp Courant FREE for another 125+ years by sponsoring a camper for the summer. Camp Courant served an additional 150 campers per day in 2019, for an average of 750 campers per day. Help keep that goal a reality for Hartford’s young people.

One day: $40.00
One Week: $200.00
One Month: $800.00
Entire summer (six weeks): $1,200
Buddy Bash Sponsorship:
Sponsorships range from $250.00-$25,000.00
Volunteer Opportunities
Camp Programming (June 2020-August 2020)
Come experience Camp first hand by volunteering alongside our staff and our campers. We are always looking for volunteers to assist in the classroom, help with recreational programming and activities, and serve as chaperones on Camp-sponsored field trips.
Camp Beautification Projects (April thru October 2020)
Our campus in Farmington is beautiful, but we could not keep it looking great without the help of volunteers. During the warmer months, we rely on the dedication of volunteers to help with beautification and clean up at Camp. Activities may include painting, landscaping, clean up and general labor.
