Hartford’s $677K South End firehouse upgrade

The Hartford Fire Department is spending $677,970 to renovate South End firehouse Engine 10.

The station at 510 Franklin Ave. will close Tuesday for the approximately 90-day renovation, with its apparatus and crew temporarily assigned to Engine 1’s station at 197 Main St., city Fire Chief Edward Casares Jr. said Monday.

Engine 1 will temporarily operate from downtown fire headquarters at 275 Pearl St.

The Engine 10 building’s upgrades will include asbestos abatement, door and window replacement, and a new kitchen as well as upgrading mechanical, electrical, and lighting functions.
