Hartford’s 311 hotline gets new handler

The city of Hartford, in a bid to streamline government and make it more responsive, has consolidated its 311 call center into the Department of Emergency Services and Telecommunications, the mayor’s office says.

A spokesman for Mayor Pedro E. Segarra said no job cuts are involved in the consolidation.

The 311 hotline to help citizens get information on local services began in 2005 under the auspices of the office of former Mayor Eddie Perez, but then last year was shifted to the city’s budget office.

“Streamlining government without sacrificing services remains a top priority of my administration,” Segarra said in a statement. “From the city’s standpoint, this structural change will improve data collection that will be beneficial to all departments.”
