The YWCA Hartford Region will be one of 19 area sites where the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance performing free tax-preparation services for low-income residents.
The service starts Saturday and runs through April 17.
In 2011, the Greater Hartford VITA programs served 6,472 filers resulting in a savings of $970,800 in tax preparation fees, authorities said. In addition, over $4 million in earned income tax credits were claimed.
VITA hours at YWCA are Tuesdays and Wednesdays, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturdays, 9 a.m. to noon.
