Due to a May 21 city-wide electronic meter outage that prevented motorists from paying for parking in public spots, the Hartford Parking Authority on Wednesday said it has voided all parking tickets from that day and issued refunds to those who have already paid.
The problem was caused by a malfunction in the automated banking system that handles credit and debit card payments, HPA said.
HPA said the system, which is managed by Parkeon, was overly protective and shut down due to a mundane circumstance. That could have included a customer asking his bank to remove a meter charge from his account, HPA CEO Eric Boone said last week.
He said Wednesday that the city has spoken with the bank about the problem to ensure it doesn’t happen again. HPA said customer credit card data was not compromised.
