Hartford’s Connecticut Convention Center will host a three-day convention/trade show drawing more than 1,200 delegates and exhibitors from the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) in mid-October 2018.
Along with delegates, the NIEA convention will feature some 100 exhibitors, Connecticut Convention & Sports Bureau said Tuesday.
The bureau said NIEA chose Hartford after hearing the bureau’s host-city pitch at the organization’s recent 2014 convention in Anchorage, Alaska.
“Home to the Mohegan Tribe and Mashantucket Pequot Nation, Connecticut will provide NIEA an exciting opportunity to partner with local tribes and with the larger tribal community of the United South and Eastern Tribes.” NIEA Executive Director Ahniwake Rose said in a statement.
The National Indian Education Association advances comprehensive educational opportunities for American Indians, Alaska Natives and Native Hawaiians throughout the U.S.
The group says its annual convention and trade show offers Native education advocates the chance to come together, network, learn and discuss issues and policies affecting the state of Native education in America.
