The Hartford Stage is set to break ground later Wednesday on the first phase of the downton theater’s $10.7 million expansion and renovation.
Gov. M. Jodi Rell and Hartford Mayor Eddie Perez are scheduled to attend the 5 p.m. ceremony at 50 Church St.
The first $4 million first phase includes a new roof, moving and expanding restrooms and improving handicap seating in the 33-year-old building.
Work on the initial phase will be finished in time for the Oct. 7 premiere of Antony and Cleopatra.
