The city of Hartford has rebooted its efforts to sell an underutilized former office building on Main Street that sits directly across from city hall.
The city recently invited developers and investors to submit proposals to buy and redevelop the 33,000-square-foot building listed at 521-529 Main St., home to Zotti Shoe Service and Cornerstone Deli.
The Main Street block, which is adjacent to The Metropolitan District building and across the street from Hartford Public Library, has a rear-surface parking lot on Wells Street with 40 spaces.Â
Built in 1926, the building previously housed offices for the city’s public works department.
Redevelopment proposals are due by mid-January.
The solicitation resurfaces as several former office buildings downtown have been converted into residential units in recent years. That includes redevelopment projects on High Street, Capitol Ave, Asylum Street and Pearl Street, among several others.
