Hartford scores high for launching a career

Hartford breaks the top 20 when it comes to best places in the United States to launch a career, according to a study released today. High marks for pay potential and career advancement offset a low score for quality of life.

The Bankrate.com study said Hartford is the 18th best city for launching a career. The report evaluated 100 U.S. cities based on several factors a young person should consider when starting their career including: job prospects, pay potential, quality of life, social opportunities and career advancement.

Hartford was ranked 75th out of 100 cities for quality of life. It earned high marks with an eighth place finish for pay potential and ranking 16th for career advancement.

“Not everyone is looking to climb to the top of the corporate ladder, so cities that ranked low on our list may be very desirable to some. It’s important for young folks to determine what factors are important to their future and use research such as this to determine what area best suits their needs,” said Claes Bell, a BankRate.com analyst.
