Hartford’s public school system has unveiled a series of initiatives it hopes will help it increase its graduation rate from 71 percent to 90 percent and achieve a 100 percent college acceptance rate by 2020.
A five-year plan announced Thursday includes a new K-2 literacy program and the expansion of a project-based learning pilot that includes internships and job shadowing.
Superintendent Beth Schiavino-Narvaez said every child will receive an individualized learning plan targeted to interests and goals, and that each would also be assigned to an adult that will oversee educational development.
The schools hope to reduce the number of suspensions and chronic absenteeism and are aiming for students to pass introductory algebra by the end of the 9th grade.
