Hartford Mayor Pedro E. Segarra announced Wednesday updated city ethics policies, including the use of city vehicles and social media and hiring relatives, to ensure greater government transparency and that  its ethics and management practices match federal standards.
“This is the first time in our city’s 376-year history that we have ever had policies like these in place,” Segarra said in a statement.
Through Mayoral Order, the following policies are in effect and will be available for review on www.hartford.gov:
1.    Vehicle Usage Policy
2.    Nepotism Policy
3.    Information Technology Resources Policy
4.    Social Media Usage Policy
Segarra also said he recently submitted an ordinance to City Council that would further strengthen the city’s ethics code and make Hartford one of the municipalities with the largest number of employees required to file statements of financial interest.Â
City and union leaders reviewed all policies before they were implemented, Segarra said.
