Hartford program honored for college aid

A program that gives Hartford Public High School graduates an opportunity to attend college is earning honors, The Associated Press reports.

The program is in its third year and will be recognized in March by the New England Board of Education.

Ten promising graduates who had not expected to be able to attend college are selected. They live in Eastern Connecticut State University dorms and take one class there, plus nine credits of remedial classes at nearby Quinebaug Valley Community College.

Sixteen of the 19 students in the dual-enrollment program’s first two years remained in college, and are now sophomores and juniors at Eastern.
