Hartford-New Haven is among U.S. markets most prepared for the upcoming transition to digital television broadcasts, according to the Connecticut Broadcasters Association.
The broadcasters today cited Nielsen Media Research data that Hartford-New Haven is the second best digital television-ready market in the nation because so many households are wired to cable TV.
Nielsen data also showed about 3 percent of all Connecticut viewers, or roughly 30,000 households, still using rabbit ears and rooftop antenna are unprepared for the switch from analog to digital TV signals on Feb. 17, the association said.
The broadcast association announced that a five-minute digital test on Jan. 12 involving all TV stations in Connecticut was a success.
Households that lack either set-top converter boxes or cable-TV connections will be incapable of receiving the digital-only TV signals that begin on Feb. 17.
