Hartford mayor highlights green law office

In an April 26 visit to the law office of Edwards, Angell, Palmer & Dodge to discuss his sustainable building initiative for the city, Hartford Mayor Pedro Segarra (left) looks over the skyline with law firm partner Alan Levin. For its office on the 20th floor of 20 Church St. in Hartford, the law firm achieved silver certification status under the Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design, or LEED, program from the U.S. Green Building Council. The office features light sensors, wood made from bamboo, recycled glass for wall paneling and conference tables made of glass and concrete. The company started the project in 2008 and moved into the new office in June 2009. The best part of the project is the law firm was able to achieve its environmental goals and still focus on pleasing asthetics throughout the office, said Chuck Welsh, the partner in charge of the firm’s Hartford office.
