Hartford man sentenced to 18 months for defrauding Amazon of $167,000

A Hartford man was sentenced to 18 months in prison Tuesday for defrauding Amazon out of more than $167,000 by exploiting an employee rewards program to order high-end electronics for himself.

U.S. District Judge Omar A. Williams sentenced Terrell Kimble, 45, and ordered him to pay $167,115 in restitution to Amazon. Kimble will also serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

Between July 2021 and December 2022, Kimble placed more than 200 fraudulent orders through Amazon’s employee rewards program while working as a regional fleet specialist and area manager in Connecticut, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut.

The rewards program, called Peak, allowed area managers to reward employees on their teams for superior performance by ordering Amazon products at no cost to the employee.

Kimble falsely represented that his orders were for employee rewards, but instead had the products delivered to his mother’s residence for his own use, prosecutors said. The items included Apple iPad Pro, Apple AirPods Pro, Apple Watch devices and Nintendo Switch gaming consoles.

Kimble was arrested on Aug. 15, 2024, and pleaded guilty to wire fraud on June 30, 2025. He has 14 prior criminal convictions.

Kimble, who was released on a $250,000 bond, must report to prison on March 20.

The U.S. Secret Service and the Connecticut Financial Crimes Task Force investigated the case with assistance from the Windsor, West Hartford and Hartford police departments. Assistant U.S. Attorney Ray Miller prosecuted the case.
