Vincent Mauro Jr., who currently serves as a government affairs adviser at law firm McCarter & English LLP, will provide strategic counsel to the State Central Executive Committee and work with Democratic elected officials statewide to “build and strengthen voter engagement programs,” party officials said.
Gov. Ned Lamont said Mauro knows how to run a “disciplined campaign” and “win tough races,” and said his appointment as senior adviser is “a major win” for the party.
A New Haven native, Mauro is a longtime respected Democratic strategist.
Mauro was first elected to chair the New Haven Democratic Town Committee in 2013 and was recently reelected to his seventh two-year term in 2026, making him one of the longest-serving New Haven Democratic town committee chairs in the modern era.
He also previously served as chief of staff to the state Senate Democratic Caucus.
His appointment comes as the state Democratic Party faces several primary challenges to incumbents, including state Rep. Josh Elliott’s bid to unseat Lamont and former Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin’s bid to unseat U.S. Rep. John Larson in the 1st congressional district.
