The Hartford Parking Authority is offering free parking and meal discounts at its Morgan Street Garage for Saturday’s St. Patrick’s Day parade through downtown.
The agency’s “Park ‘N Paddy” free-parking promotion is good all day Saturday at that garage only, said CEO Mark McGovern. More than half Morgan’s 2,290 parking spaces will be open to parkers.
The garage is about four blocks from the Main Street-Asylum Street leg of the parade route that begins at the State Capitol and ends by the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Arch.
Morgan Street parkers also will get a dining voucher good for 20 percent off at participating downtown restaurants on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17.
This will be the HPA’s third “Freebie Day” park-and-dine/shop promotion in four months aimed at building permanent, paying traffic at the city’s three garages, McGovern said.
“We want to drive traffic to the Morgan Street garage and all our garages,” he said. “We think people who park here will see it’s one of the best in the city and will want to come again, and hopefully purchase a monthly pass.”
The two previous parking promotions were held on “Black Friday,” the first official holiday shopping day after Thanksgiving, and on New Year’s Day at all three of its garages, including the MAT and Church Street garages, both on Church Street.
