Hartford law firm Murtha Cullina completes merger with Harris Beach

The newly formed law firm of Harris Beach Murtha has begun operations. Formed from the merger of Hartford’s Murtha Cullina and Rochester, New York-based Harris Beach, the combined firm was first announced last year.

The firm now has more than 250 attorneys, including 150 partners, working across 16 offices in Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York and the District of Columbia.

Andy Corea, who was Murtha Cullina’s managing partner for the last four years, will serve on the firm’s management committee, while Chris Jagel becomes the CEO of the new firm, the role he has filled at Harris Beach since 2017.

The two firms first announced the combination last May and it was approved by a vote of the partners in July.

“With our attorneys collaborating across more diverse practice areas, we have already begun delivering cross-disciplinary legal services that better respond to our clients’ expanding needs,” Corea said.

As of the end of 2024, Murtha Cullina had 66 attorneys in Connecticut and was ranked the 12th-largest firm in Greater Hartford, according to the Hartford Business Journal’s Book of Lists.

The combined firm’s offices in Connecticut are in Bantam, Hartford, New Haven and Stamford; in New York state in Albany, Buffalo, Ithaca, New York City, Rochester, Saratoga Springs, Syracuse, Long Island and White Plains. It also has a presence in Boston, Massachusetts, Newark, New Jersey and Washington, D.C.
