Hartford HealthCare’s rheumatology chief charged with child exploitation crimes

Hartford HealthCare’s chief of rheumatology at the Bone & Joint Institute at Hartford Hospital is facing child sexual exploitation charges and has been released on a $350,000 bond pending a court appearance on March 22.

Dr. John Magaldi, 61, was one of three men arrested as part of a joint investigation targeting individuals seeking sexual activity with children.

A spokesperson for Hartford HealthCare said Magaldi has been placed on administrative leave.

“We are troubled to learn of the arrest and we take these allegations seriously,” the organization said in a statement. “With safety as a core value, we have placed Dr. John Magaldi on administrative leave, and we are working to gather information from law enforcement authorities so that we can address this situation appropriately.”

Magaldi was charged on March 8 with attempt to commit second-degree sexual assault, attempt to commit illegal sexual contact with a victim under 16, attempt to commit commercial sex abuse with a minor and interfering with an officer.
