Hartford HealthCare (HHC) is replacing top executives in each of its three regions, effective Oct. 1, the start of the company’s fiscal year.
The affected hospitals and regions are Backus in Norwich and Windham in Willimantic, in the east region; Hartford Hospital in the Hartford region; and the Hospital of Central Connecticut in New Britain and MidState Medical Center in Meriden in the central region.
In the central region, at MidState Medical Center and The Hospital of Central Connecticut, Gary Havican, who is the central region’s vice president of operations, will become regional president, succeeding Lucille Janatka, who is retiring.
Janette Edwards will succeed Havican in the regional operations role. John Rossi, director of HHC’s office of project management, will succeed Edwards as HHC vice president for operational integration.
In the Hartford region, which includes Hartford Hospital, Bimal Patel, now president of HHC’s east region, will become president. Patel succeeds Dr. Stuart Markowitz, who will become HHC’s senior vice president for strategic imaging services.
In the east region, Patel will be succeeded at Backus and Windham hospitals by Donna Handley, the HHC Cancer Institute’s vice president of operations. Her replacement will be announced in the near future, HHC said.
The changes are possible because of “the solid foundation set by our current leaders,” Hartford HealthCare CEO Elliot Joseph and HHC President and COO Jeffrey A. Flaks wrote in a letter to staff.
