Hartford Healthcare has officially opened The Ridge Recovery Center in Windham.
The substance abuse treatment facility is located at 289 Windham Road and was acquired by Hartford HealthCare in 2021 for $2.8 million from Oblate Real Estate Trust.
The center was renovated and expected to open for patients in early December 2023. Hartford Healthcare held a ribbon-cutting for the facility in November.
According to the facility’s website, however, patient referrals didn’t begin until Monday, with the first patients to arrive Wednesday.
In an emailed statement, Hartford Healthcare said it is “proud to announce that we have successfully completed the state approval process and are now officially open to accept patients. The Ridge is providing much needed critical access to substance abuse treatment and recovery in Windham.”
In a LinkedIn post Monday, Hartford HealthCare described the opening as “Big News!” It said the facility is the newest addition to the HHC Behavioral Health Network and provides “withdrawal management, intensive residential treatment and extended-stay options for adults 18 and older with substance abuse disorders involving alcohol, opiates, benzodiazepines, stimulants and inhalants, as well as other addictive substances.
According to the latest data available from the state Department of Public Health, there were 1,452 unintentional drug overdose deaths in Connecticut in 2022, a 306% increase compared to 2012.
According to previous information released by Hartford HealthCare, the facility has 16 medically monitored withdrawal management beds, 36 residential treatment beds, and sober living accommodations for extended stays. All residential rooms are private.
The center is staffed around the clock and offers a team of social workers, nurses, recovery support specialists and physicians. The facility has 70 employees, Hartford Healthcare said.
The facility is located on several wooded acres and has walking trails. Hartford Healthcare officials have said the facility will promote physical wellness with workout equipment, morning movement sessions and yoga.
