Hartford HealthCare launches new virtual care service – in a grocery store

Going food shopping? Now you can get a health check-up, too.

Hartford HealthCare has launched a new “healthcare experience” at the Stop & Shop in Killingly Commons.

The healthcare system has partnered with OnMed, a virtual care delivery company, to deploy its virtual care service at the supermarket at 1094 Killingly Commons Drive in Dayville.

The service debuted at the store Friday morning. Hartford HealthCare and OnMed plan to deploy additional locations across the state later this year.

The store’s OnMed Care Station connects users, ages 2 and up, to licensed clinical professionals for private, one-on-one, virtual healthcare visits.

OnMed’s services are available seven days a week. No appointment is needed.

OnMed’s medical professionals can capture key vital signs and provide care for common ailments including respiratory illness, allergies, headaches, heartburn and infections.

Patients who need additional care will be given referrals. Prescriptions can be filled at the in-store pharmacy or through the patient’s preferred pharmacy.

Hartford HealthCare said the grocery store model is meant to improve access to primary care by making it available on-demand in a convenient location.
