Hartford HealthCare is one step closer to expanding its reach into Litchfield County.
The five-hospital health system, anchored by its flagship Hartford Hospital, said Friday that it has agreed to a formal affiliation with Charlotte Hungerford Hospital in Torrington.
The affiliation still needs regulatory approvals, which are expected to take several months.
“The strategic affiliation would improve quality and expand the scope and accessibility of affordable healthcare for patients in a culture of compassion, respect and integrity; support the recruitment of skilled providers; assist with community benefit programming and allow for further necessary infrastructure investments,” the two said in a joint announcement, which came about six months after they first disclosed they were in talks.
Charlotte Hungerford would anchor a new Northwest Region for Hartford HealthCare.
The agreement includes the following financial commitments:
- $50 million to fund maintenance and replacement capital projects at Charlotte Hungerford;
- $20 million for strategic investments;
- $3 million for medical staff recruitment and development
- $2.5 million for the Northwest Community Foundation;
- and $500,000 over five years to support Litchfield County’s participation in a Centers for Disease Control grant program.
