Hartford HealthCare (HHC) announced this week that Amanda (Mandy) Richards, R.N., M.S.N., was appointed to the post of executive vice president and the system’s first-ever chief nursing officer.

“This is really a commitment to harness the passion and the power of the nurse’s role at Hartford HealthCare,” CEO Jeffrey Flaks said. “We needed a leader in this moment who had the experience. [Richards] is the perfect person at the right time to help us go to the next level.”
Most recently, Richards was chief nursing officer at Allina Health, a nonprofit system with 12 hospitals in Minnesota and Wisconsin. She has advocated for nurses as a member of the American Association of Nurse Executives and is recognized nationally for her leadership, Flaks said.
As chief nursing officer, Richards will play a key role in HHC’s quality and safety efforts and also enhance the system’s training and education of nurses.
“[Richards] is going to make us even more of a destination to help nurses realize their full potential,” Flaks said.
