Hartford HealthCare, Aetna renew contract ahead of schedule

As Hartford HealthCare and Anthem continue to try and negotiate a lapsed contract, the Hartford care provider said Tuesday it has renewed an existing contract with Hartford insurer Aetna.

Effective Jan. 1., three months before the contract with Aetna is set to expire, HHC said the renewal keeps Hartford HealthCare hospitals, ancillary providers and employed physicians in-network without interruption.

The new contract includes all Aetna members in commercial, employer-based healthcare and Aetna Medicare Advantage plans. Hospitals included in the agreement are Hartford Hospital, The Hospital of Central Connecticut, MidState Medical Center, Backus Hospital and Windham Hospital.

The contract also includes numerous Hartford HealthCare programs and services, as well as about 2,000 physicians and medical professionals.

Hartford HealthCare also has entrusted Aetna with its own employee health plan.
