Hartford’s social-services agency is collecting a $96,000 federal grant – a fifth of what it had requested — to ensure proper nutrition for the city’s elderly, who often are caregivers to their immediate and extended families, officials say.
Mayor Pedro E. Segarra said the city Department of Health and Human Services is the recipient of the grant from the North Central Area Agency on Aging to expand the nutritional programs provided through the city’s two senior centers.
The grant also will allow for the extension of the nutritional services to offsite locations.
Segarra said the city initially requested $500,000.
