Hartford gasoline up 4 cents per gallon

More than a week after Tropical Storm Irene, gasoline prices in Greater Hartford are up nearly 4 cents per gallon, a drastic turnaround from the end-of-summer decline.

Gasoline prices in the region had been dropping steadily since early August until Tropical Storm Irene hit on Aug. 28, causing prices to rise less than 1 cent per gallon of regular unleaded.

That increase took a larger jump this week when prices on Wednesday rose to $3.920 per gallon of regular unleaded from $3.882 per gallon a week ago, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge report.

The 3.8 cents per gallon increase in Greater Hartford is the largest increase throughout the state, as the three other geographic regions tracked by AAA – Bridgeport, New Haven-Meriden and New London-Norwich – saw increases between 1.8 and 2.7 cents per gallon.
