The price per gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was 33 cents higher on Tuesday in Greater Hartford than it was a month ago, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge report.
AAA reported Connecticut was among the top 10 states in the nation for gasoline price increases, having experienced a 31 cent increase throughout the entire state through Monday.
The increase of prices at the pump is typical in spring, due to seasonal maintenance, rising demand, and the use of more expensive summer-blend gasoline, which is required in Connecticut, said AAA. Refinery issues also are causing gasoline prices to spike.
Despite the large monthly increase, Connecticut motorists still are paying significantly less than they did a year ago, when prices flirted with $4 per gallon. The statewide average was down $1.17 per gallon on Monday, and in Greater Hartford, prices were down $1.16 per gallon on Tuesday compared to a year ago.
