Hartford gasoline jumps 20 cents in a week

The price per gallon of gasoline in Greater Hartford jumped 20 cents in the last week, according to the AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report.

The cost at Greater Hartford gasoline stations reached $3.973 per gallon of regular unleaded on Wednesday, up from $3.773 a week ago. Prices has been somewhat steady in the $3.70-$3.80 cent range for the past month before skyrocketing earlier this week.

The jump was driven by a significant increase in the cost of a barrel of oil, which reached $106 per barrel on Wednesday.

Connecticut also had a 4-cents per gallon gas tax increase go into effect on July 1.

Elsewhere in the state, Greater Bridgeport had its gasoline prices pass the $4 per gallon milestone this week, hitting $4.057 on Wednesday.
